Chilled Performances
Our Chilled performances offer a friendly, informal visit to the theatre with no pressure to understand unwritten rules of how to behave.
At a Chilled performance, there is a more relaxed environment than usual. This means you can make noises or ask questions if you need to. You are also welcome to get up and move around, or even leave and re-enter the auditorium whenever you like.
Should you need a break from the auditorium, a quiet ‘Chill Out Zone’ is available. This area offers calming lighting and is designed as a quiet space for anyone needing time away.
Where possible, we will provide detailed information ahead of your visit about difficult themes, sudden or loud noises, dramatic lighting changes, or any other sensory triggers.
Unlike our Relaxed performances, Chilled performances contain no changes to the content of the show.
FAQs
Who would benefit from a Chilled performance?
Everyone is welcome at a Chilled performance. However, they may be particularly helpful for school groups and first-time theatregoers, as well as those with anxiety, dementia, young children or babes-in-arms, and those who might make involuntary noises or movements.
How does this differ from a Relaxed performance?
Relaxed performances include changes to the content and technical aspects of the show (e.g. reduced volume, avoidance of strobe lighting, an introduction from the actors, etc). At a Chilled performance, there are no changes to the show.
Do you have a visual story?
We have some helpful guides to both of our performance spaces in the form of a visual story. These may be helpful for visitors on the autistic spectrum, or anyone who wishes to know more before their visit.
