Ticket booking FAQs

Do you have a question about making a booking for a show at The Marlowe? Here are the answers to some of our most frequently asked questions.

How can I book my tickets?
The quickest and easiest way to book tickets is by using our website.

However, you can also book tickets by visiting our Box Office, situated in our theatre foyer, or by calling our Box Office team on 01227 787787.

Our phone lines are often busy in the morning, so we advise that you call in the afternoon, if that is convenient.

What concessions or discounts are available?
Our best value tickets are available to our members who book early.

If you join as a Marlowe Friend you will get access to priority booking, generous discounts and exclusive early booking offers.

However, these discounts and special offers are subject to availability, so we always advise you to book early to get the best deal.

How do e-tickets work?
You can choose the e-tickets option when booking your tickets, they will then be emailed to you as a PDF.

You do not need to print out your e-tickets or collect them at Box Office when you arrive.

All you need to do is show your e-ticket on your phone or tablet to a member of our team when entering the auditorium.

If you cannot find your e-tickets email, then you can also download them from the My Account section of our website.

E-tickets are not available for shows with unreserved seating.

Why can I not leave a single seat when booking my tickets?
We try to avoid leaving single seats when selling tickets to our patrons. This is because single seats are much less appealing to our customers, who generally like to sit together when they visit our theatre.

We operate this same policy for customers who book in-person, by phone or online. However, we will leave single seats when accommodating customers who have particular access needs.

Can I reserve my tickets and pay later?
Reservations can only be made for group bookings of 10 or more tickets. Payment will need to be received two months before the performance.

Which payment cards do you accept?
We accept all major payment cards, apart from American Express.

If I asked for my tickets to be posted, when will they arrive?
Tickets will arrive at your address within 7 working days. If the performance that you are attending is sooner than this, you can select the option to pick up your tickets at the Box Office.

Can I get a refund on my tickets?
We do not offer refunds unless a show is cancelled.

However, tickets can be exchanged for an alternative performance of the same show (subject to availability) up to five days before a performance. A charge will be made for this service.

Can you resell my tickets?
We will endeavour to resell your ticket, if the show is sold out.

If your ticket is sold, the amount will be refunded to the original payment method.

We will only contact you after the performance if your ticket has been sold. A £3 charge per ticket will be made for this service.

Can I buy Marlowe tickets with national theatre tokens?
We do not accept national theatre tokens.

However, you can buy Marlowe gift vouchers for whatever amount you choose, making an ideal gift for the theatre-goers in your life. You can buy gift vouchers online, or by calling or visiting our Box Office.

What happens if I lose my tickets?
If you have lost your tickets, please visit the Box Office on the day of the performance and we will reprint them for you. Please bring proof of your ID. Please note, we do not send out duplicate tickets by post.

How do Discovery Tickets work?
Discovery Tickets are for those aged 16-26yrs old and offer tickets to selected performances for £10.

Find out more about our Discovery Tickets.

What discounts are available for group bookers?
We offer group bookers discounted tickets on selected performances, normally with 10% off for bookings of 10 or more tickets and 15% off for bookings of 25 or more tickets.

What is a multi-buy?
Many of our shows are part of a multi-buy offer. If you book your tickets for different shows at the same time, you’ll receive generous discounts. Don’t forget, the earlier you book, the cheaper your tickets will be. You can view a full list of shows that are part of our multi-buy offer by using the filters on the What’s On.

How can I find out the running time for a performance?
To find out the latest running time information for this week’s show, call our Box Office on 01227 787787 and select option 1.

Are ear plugs available?
Please ask a member of the Front Of House team and they will provide you with a pair.

What is the minimum age for a show?
If there is a minimum age recommendation for a show, then it will be listed on the show page.

What age can children attend unaccompanied?
Children of 13 years or older can attend our theatre unaccompanied.  However, we do not take responsibility of that young person.

Children under 13 years need to be accompanied by an adult.

Do you have lap seats?
The Marlowe offers a limited amount of free lap tickets for children under the age of 18 months. When these tickets have sold out the customer will have to pay the price of the lowest priced ticket to admit a child under 18 months.

What is a chilled performance?
Chilled performances provide a more casual theatre-going experience for audiences who are watching the show. It is okay to walk in and out of the auditorium and rules on noise are more relaxed.

Chilled performances are ideal for those who like a more informal atmosphere when they visit the theatre. School audiences and babes-in-arms are also welcome. They do not include any changes to the show.
