Summer In The Studio: An Interview with Will Jackson from Confetti
Tue 28 Jun 2022Tell us about yourself?
Hiya! I’m Will Jackson and I’m a writer and actor. I make comedic work which tends to have a queer focus. My new show Confetti is coming to The Marlowe on Friday 8 July before it goes up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
What inspired you to make the show?
I wanted to write a show which showed a classic British rom com from the “Gay Best Friends” perspective. I always found whenever I watched a Richard Curtis film or a Nora Ephron movie I’d be much more engaged in the eccentric, supportive friends who’d back up the protagonists, than I ever was in with the main couple. So that was my starting point.
Enter Felix. He’s the ‘Mate of Honour’ for his best friend’s wedding. He’s very highly strung and wants to make sure the whole event goes perfectly. However, things start going awry when he has his own little romance along the way. Will he be able to balance pulling off the wedding of the century whilst keeping his new secret romance under wraps? You’ll have to come and watch the play to find out!
The show’s also a love letter to the events and hospitality industry which was decimated by Covid. In every scene we visit locations and events that we all missed out on over the lockdowns, from whacky exercise classes to fancy gallery openings to cheesy romantic first dates on the town.
What can audiences expect when they come to see the show?
A great night out! The play starts at the Hen Night of the bride, so as soon as the audience arrive, they’re treated as guests and are given party bags, which have fun things for them in them but also tools to help create the magic of the play.
It’s very funny, very romantic and in this bumper year of weddings, it’s very timely. I’d love to see ya there!
Confetti will be in The Studio on Friday 8 July and tickets can be booked here.
