Summer In The Studio: An interview with Seth Kriebel from The Death Of King Arthur

This summer we will be opening the doors of our Studio and previewing some of the exciting theatre and comedy on this year’s festival circuit. We spoke to the creator of The Death Of King Arthur, an interactive twist on the enduringly popular tales of Arthur and his knights, to find out what’s in store for audiences.

Tell us about yourself?
I’m a theatre maker based in Brighton. My performances are always quite interactive – I think the best shows happen when the performer and the audience work together to make something new. If the show could go on without an audience it’s not really theatre! My shows aren’t improv… they are more like games the audience and I play together.

What inspired you to make the show?
When I was touring my interactive version of Beowulf, after the shows people kept asking if I’d ever thought of doing something similar with King Arthur. I hadn’t read any of the stories in a long time and I had forgotten how many different stories and characters there are… and how many different versions of the stories, written by different authors across the centuries. It seemed a perfect fit for an interactive show, where the audience gets to build their own legend – sort of King Arthur pick n’ mix.

What can audiences expect when they come to see the show?
You’ll hear the tale of King Arthur… but it will be your own version, as you’ll pick which bits of the story you want to hear (and it’s perfectly fine to just sit back and watch if you’d prefer!). Each show is different, depending on the choices the audience makes.

The Death Of King Arthur will be in The Studio on Thursday 7 July and tickets are available here.
