The Marlowe Academy of Performing Arts

Learn from the professionals at our theatre and kickstart your career with real life experiences and unique opportunities.

The Marlowe Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA), is a new educational programme designed for 16 to 19-year-olds to gain world-class experience in the theatre industry, offering an unparalleled experience for those interested in a career in the performing arts. MAPA students will be studying the Level 3 UAL Performing Arts Diploma (equivalent to 3 A Levels), specialising in acting. Their training will be co-delivered by Canterbury College and the Marlowe Theatre. MAPA students will be embedded residents at the Marlowe Theatre over their two-year course, learning from working-industry professionals and learning first-hand what it takes to make the Marlowe Theatre a thriving theatre.

Course units will be directly connected to the Marlowe Theatre’s artistic programme – as well as watching shows at the theatre, students will benefit from seeing ‘behind the curtain’ of our visiting companies, learning directly from creatives, performers and production professionals from professional network.

Students will be developing their acting skills with their dedicated course producer at the Marlowe Theatre, including vocal technique, movement, and the psychology of acting to puppetry, physical theatre and devising. These practical skills are then combined with classes in the theory of acting at the college.
