The Marlowe Kit

Escape room, exhibition and creative space.

Housed in a wonderful twelfth century building on Stour Street, The Kit offers new and exciting ways to learn about Canterbury’s rich literary heritage.

The Marlowe’s Escape Room: Marlowe’s Ghost

An immersive escape room experience, Marlowe’s Ghost is themed around the life and death of Christopher Marlowe, inviting gamers, tourists and families to unlock the mysteries of Canterbury’s greatest dramatist.

Exhibition: Kent’s Remarkable Writers: The Worlds Of Christopher Marlowe, Aphra Behn And Joseph Conrad

A new exhibition that celebrates the remarkable lives and works of Christopher Marlowe, Aphra Behn and Joseph Conrad – three world-famous writers who lived in Canterbury during three different eras in the City’s history. The exhibition includes objects from Canterbury City Council’s heritage archive, including items from the personal collection of Joseph Conrad.

The Marlowe Kit is a place to enjoy intimate performances, with a programme of theatre, music, comedy, spoken word and family shows all taking place in our wonderfully atmospheric twelfth century Great Hall. You can check out a full listing of our events on our What’s On.

Learning and participation

The Marlowe Kit is the home of our creative classes, with a range of workshops for all ages. This includes The Marlowe Youth Company which gives young people the opportunity to develop their own creative skills and talents.

Workshops At The Kit: Christopher Marlowe And His World

From Summer 2019, we will offer a new programme of engaging school workshops that will introduce young people to Christopher Marlowe and the world in which he lived. You can download a full leaflet of our workshops and what we offer to schools in the right-hand side section of this page.

The Marlowe Kit is a collaboration between The Marlowe and Canterbury City Council Museums and Galleries.
Our programme is made possible by Pioneering Places, part of The Great Place scheme.
