Writers’ Room: Beats per Minute

Part of the Writers' Room Festival.

Written by Laura Woodward.

“Who wouldn’t want their dad to live? Who wouldn’t want the worrying and the waiting to end?”

Starr has her sh*t together. Or so it seems. She works hard, works out and is queen of karaoke. But sometimes it feels like she lives a double life. Starr knows she needs to break the patterns of her past, but to do so, she must first revisit it.

Coming to terms with the death of a parent is hard. Laura Woodward’s Beats per Minute is an expression of love, grief, joy and pain. It’s about the importance of human connection, the inevitability of death and the joy of living.

Beats per Minute was developed as part of the Marlowe Theatre Writers’ Room Advanced Playwriting course.

Contains themes on grief.
