The Alternative Comedy Show

With a headline set from 3-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominated comedian, writer and actor Chris Cantrill, join us for this celebration of comic ideas and originality.

Known for mixing quick fire gags with uniquely offbeat observations about modern life, West Yorkshire’s Chris Cantrill developed a reputation as “one of the most charmingly, daftly funny comics on the scene right now” (The Times). Chris has appeared in shows such as the BAFTA-winning Alma’s Not Normal, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared and Avoidance. He’s also written for the likes of Dave, Channel 4, BBC Radio 2, Cbeebies and is half of the acclaimed double act The Delightful Sausage (alongside Amy Gledhill).

Chris will be joined by online sensation and one of comedy’s fastest rising stars, Freya Mallard. Heard on BBC Radio 4 for her new comedy award nomination and on the most recent series of DMs are Open, Freya has also starred in the most recent Stand Up Sketch Show and was a semi – finalist for 2Northdown’s New Act Award, So You Think You’re Funny and Chortle Student Comedy Award.

We will also be treated to a set from Lil Wenker, a Gaulier-trained clown from Minnesota who is now based in London. She performs in alternative comedy nights all-round the capital.

MCing the evening will be Sharon Wanjohi who was part of the line-up in the prestigious BBC New Comedy Awards 2024 and reached the finals of both the Funny Women Stage Awards and the Chortle Student Comedy Awards in 2021. Sharon has also featured in the Channel 4 online series Jokes only a… Can Tell, the hit podcast Drunk Women Solving Crime, The Stand Up Sketch Show and at Latitude’s Comedy Arena.
