Live at the Marlowe

Simon Amstell headlines our hugely popular night of live comedy.

Live at the Marlowe returns in April with a headline set from comedian, presenter, screenwriter, and director Simon Amstell.

Simon was the youngest finalist of the BBC New Comedy Awards and has since won an RTS Award, a Broadcast Award, two British Comedy Awards and has been nominated for a BAFTA. His stand-up special Set Free is available on Netflix and as a presenter he has fronted hugely popular programmes such as Popworld and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

The evening will also feature award-winning screenwriter, actress and comedian Alison Spittle. Co-presenter of the BBC sounds podcast Wheel of Misfortune with Kerry Katona, Alison is a regular co-host of The Guilty Feminist and had her own hugely successful vehicle The Alison Spittle Show. Creator of the television series Nowhere Fast, she has appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox, Richard Osman’s House of Games and as a judge on the BBC New Comedy Awards.

As seen on The Stand Up Sketch Show, Period Dramas and The Joy Of Missing Out, Lily Philips will also be joining the line up. One of the most exciting up-and-coming voices in comedy, Lily was a Runner Up at the 2019 Leicester Square New Comedian of the Year, Funny Women Finalist 2018, and was a part of prestigious Pleasance Comedy Reserve at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2021, Lily reached the grand final of the BBC New Comedy Awards on BBC One.

Hosting the evening will be Ian Smith. Co-host of the Northern News podcast, alongside Amy Gledhill – featured in The Guardian’s “best podcasts of 2023 so far” – Ian is a multi-award-winning comedian, actor and writer. Ian is a regular on BBC Radio 4’s The News Quiz, which he guest-hosted this year – and has appeared on The Now Show, Just A Minute, The Ultimate Choice, One Person Found This Helpful as well as his own Radio 4 stand-up series, Ian Smith is Stressed.
