The Reluctant Dragon
A brand-new family musical about friendship, unlikely heroes, and having the courage to be different.
When a fairytale-obsessed child discovers a real-life dragon living in a nearby cave, panic spreads throughout the village. But instead of a fire-breathing monster, the child gets to know a friendly and flamboyant creature who loves to perform poetry and bask in the sunshine.
To save the dragon from St. George the Dragon-Slayer, the new friends must mastermind a cunning plan. Can a charming dragon, a noble knight and one clever child manage to trick the village and prove that not all dragons are monsters?
This original Marlowe Theatre production is an enchanting adaptation of the beloved story by Kenneth Grahame (The Wind in the Willows), full of laughter, music and heart. With book and lyrics by Samson Hawkins (Village Idiot), music by Joey Hickman (The Snow Queen) and direction by Lucy Wray (Fertile, Celebrate; RSC Associate Learning Practitioner), The Reluctant Dragon is the perfect introduction to theatre for young children this festive season.
There will be a free touch tour before the Audio Described performance on Tuesday 22 December. This event is for blind and partially sighted customers and provides an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world presented on stage by touching parts of the set, props and costumes. Please contact our Box Office to book.
