Beethoven Overture Leonore No.3
Beethoven Piano Concerto No.4
Shostakovich Symphony No.12, The Year 1917

Passion. Power. Revolution. Santtu launches our season with three blazing showpieces packed into one unmissable performance.

Filled with rousing tunes and bombastic brass, Shostakovich’s Twelfth Symphony is a joyous tribute to the idealistic early years following the 1917 Russian Revolution. Under the baton of our Principal Conductor Designate, its irresistible celebratory mood sweeps up listeners with grand gestures and unbridled optimism.

By contrast, Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto starts much more subtly – but its captivating solo piano opening perfectly sets the mood for one of the best-loved works from a composer whose music is still treasured by audiences across the world 250 years after his birth.
