English Touring Opera Presents Handel's Giulio Cesare
One of Handel’s most celebrated operas.
Giulio Cesare, Rome’s most powerful man meets his match in Egypt’s legendary queen Cleopatra in this thrilling tale of love, intrigue and revenge.
Performing a treasure trove of great arias with immense dramatic intensity, Countertenor Francis Gush and Soprano Susanna Hurrell lead the cast as Caesar and Cleopatra, with Alexander Chance as her brother Tolomeo and Carolyn Dobbin and Margo Arsane as the grieving family of Caesar’s enemy Pompey.
One of the most performed and popular baroque operas, English Touring Opera’s acclaimed 2017 staging of Giulio Cesare is revived by James Conway, conducted by Sergey Rybin and will be performed on period instruments in partnership with the much-praised Old Street Band. This performance will also feature Canterbury Cantata.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
