A novel musical set in Margate. Thoughtful, engaging and entertaining!
During a difficult time in his life, T.S. Eliot sat in the Nayland Rock shelter overlooking Margate Sands and penned The Wasteland. Today Joan’s daughter has brought her mother down from London on the suggestion of the memory clinic – rekindling old memories might help Joan find a way through her own wasteland of dementia.
As Joan sits in the shelter, memories of a holiday romance come flooding back. She remembers the young art student who took her on the back of his motorbike and introduced her to the excitement and history of East Kent. She was once rebellious and, like Margate, full of the joys of youth.
Joan and her daughter visit the Turner Contemporary gallery where they meet others also searching for a second chance at love. As the gallery helps in the rejuvenation of the town, for a short while, the wasteland of Joan’s dementia is rejuvenated into the dreamlands of the old days.
