The Virtual Orchestra

Brought to you by the Philharmonia Orchestra and The Marlowe, this immersive experience invites you to explore a symphony orchestra from the inside, no matter what your age or experience.

A 10-room installation showcases the internal workings of the Philharmonia as the orchestra perform Holst’s The Planets, conducted by Principal Conductor, Esa-Pekka Salonen. The installation invites you to step inside the orchestra to witness each section playing their part. With over 37 screens, journey your way through the installation from violins to percussion, and from Mercury to Neptune.

Alongside, try our award-winning Virtual Reality experience. Put on virtual reality headsets and headphones and experience a performance of Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony from inside the orchestra. This is a 360-degree experience: recorded with 3D audio as well as 3D visuals, you hear each and every instrument as you turn to see the Philharmonia Orchestra all around you.

Join us at the Sidney Cooper Gallery on Canterbury High Street for this free immersive experience – no need to book.
