Consultant support to ensure commitment to diversity

Fixed Term

The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury is one of this country’s most successful large-scale independent theatres, with a 1,200-seat main house, a 150-seat studio and The Marlowe Kit, home to our thriving Youth Company. We present a year-round programme of touring theatre, musicals, dance, opera, music and comedy. We also produce theatre for and with the communities of Kent and support regional artists and theatre-makers.

The Marlowe became an independent charitable trust in December 2018 and, led by Chair Jonathan Church and Chief Executive Deborah Shaw, we have developed a Vision for a Kent that is thriving, creative, connected, confident and compassionate and a core mission to be Kent’s engine house for the performing arts.

The Marlowe’s strategic managers are now leading the development of a suite of strategies which will steer our business plan and activity to ensure we deliver our core mission. We are currently undertaking a wide-ranging stakeholder consultation to inform the strategies which are:

  • Learning and Participation Strategy
  • Artist Development Strategy
  • Audience Development Strategy
  • Skills Development Strategy
  • Diversity Strategy

We are looking to appoint a consultant, with experience of strategy development and some knowledge of the sector, to provide challenge and advice to our management team to ensure that our commitment to diversity is embedded and made real in our strategies.

Please note that, in addition to this position, we are also seeking a consultant with specialist experience of strategy development to support our management team in the development of the strategies.

Timeline

We expect the stakeholder consultation to be completed by May 2021 and the strategies to be complete soon after.

We will agree the structure of the project with the successful consultant, but support support could be provided as:

  • Introductory meeting with Executive Team – one hour
  • First meetings (virtual or in person) with Strategy leaders – five x one hours
  • Second meetings with strategy leaders – five x one hours
  • Final meetings with strategy leaders – five x one hours
  • Time to review work completed – 10 hours

Total hours to deliver project – 26 hours – although this is subject to discussion and agreement.
